Every single name on this year’s Jasmine Awards shortlists deserves to be feted, but there’s one success which is especially remarkable. ODOU Magazine – the creation of Liam Moore – has been shortlisted twice in the prestigious ‘Literary Award (Magazines)’ category and once in the ‘Soundbite Award’ category. This is laudable in itself, but it’s made even more special by the fact that ODOU is still in its infancy and currently has only one issue to its name. Hats off to Liam and his writers for pulling off an incredible (perhaps even unprecedented?) feat!

I bought my own copy of ODOU #1 as soon as it came out in 2013 and I fully intended to mention it here, but as is often the way, circumstances intervened and my plans got stuck in the ‘Must Get Around To This One Day’ pile. Thankfully, the Jasmine judges have jolted me into action. In a scented nutshell: the magazine is well worth your time and money. Not only is it beautifully presented, but it also features a wide variety of scent-related articles from an unusual mix of authors. The subjects covered range from the subjectivity of odour reception to smells in the work of Emile Zola and the links between scents and sounds. I’m not sure if hard copies of the issue are still available for purchase, but I expect the digital version is accessible. I’m aware that plans for ODOU #2 are already well under way, so hopefully it won’t be long before it’s released.

For the record, the ODOU writers nominated for the Jasmine Literary Award this year are Pia Long (for Your Nose Is A Snowflake) and Neil Chapman (for Perfume Haters). The Soundbite nominee is Paul-André St-Georges (for Away From The Nose, Away From The Heart).

Warm congratulations to them all!

The winners will be announced on 12th March.

  1. Thank you Persolaise for those lovely words 🙂 I'm really glad to hear you enjoyed reading it. Yes getting three nominations has blown my socks off let alone those of Pia's, Neil's and Paul's! We're all thrilled to bits. You can still indeed buy issue one on the website. Issue two coming soon 😉

  2. I, too, was blown away by ODOU's impressive, thorough articles on its many olfactive subjects. Looking forward to Issue 2!

I love hearing from my readers, so please feel free to write a comment or ask a question.
