It’s joint-list-making time again here in our corner of the blogosphere and the task of choosing our theme has fallen to the Candy Perfume Boy. As he gave us a pretty free hand – all he said was that he wanted our post to take its inspiration from the world of fashion – I decided to structure the assignment by imposing these rules on myself:

– Choose ten, high-profile fashion brand adverts from the latest issues of big-name magazines (5 for women’s clothes; 5 for men’s)
– Choose a perfume to go with each image
– Do not choose a perfume made by the brand featured in the advert
– Write an abstract description of each choice in no more than 15 words (in order to keep the exercise as visual and image-focussed as possible)
– Try to have fun

The results are as follows (please click on the photos to enlarge them)…

Dior wears Rose Barbare (Guerlain) by Francis Kurkdjian
Thorn-fisted rose insinuates a path into a wary heart

Valentino wears Opus III (Amouage) by Karine Vinchon
Her anguish is unbending and still: a perfectly poised plait

Gucci wears Black Series AB (Blood Concept)
Plastic viper glares at midnight-haunted leather

Chanel wears Calandre (Paco Rabanne) by Michel Hy
60s sci-fi winks at the present with rosy sass

Alexander McQueen wears Aleksandr (Arquiste) by Yann Vasnier
Ice pearls and diamond tears chill the surface of her armour

Artfully tactful, tactfully artful; cheerily geeky, geekily cheerful

Gieves & Hawkes wears Odd Fellow’s Bouquet (Atkinsons)
After-dinner decorum toys with sweet tobacco and knowing smiles

DSQUARED2 wears Avignon (Comme Des Garçons)
A temple-contented soul to soften the thud of the march

Versace wears Tuscan Leather (Tom Ford) by Harry Fremont
Stallion gaze gallops across waves of Riviera blue

Burnished petals tell tales engraved with arabesques and yesterday’s wisdom

Have a wonderful weekend,

  1. OMG! I love your post. First for the rules you set on yourself, then for the great images (I almost went with the McQueen and Etro images for my inspiration but pulled Cavalli out of the bag last-minute), and finally for your brief prose.

  2. I'm not really a purveyor of high fashion (who actually wears that stuff!) but I was pleasantly surprised to see Prada using Ben Whishaw as an actor! And you were spot-on when you recommended Bois Farine for being cheerily geeky and geekily cheery for the Prada look.

    Great post!

I love hearing from my readers, so please feel free to write a comment or ask a question.
