Okay folks, here’s the announcement I’ve been dying to make. The book on which I’ve been working (aka the Top Secret Writing Project) is Le Snob: Perfume and it’s due to be published by Hardie Grant in October; click on its title if you’d like to pre-order a copy… or two…

It is the latest in the series of Le Snob guides (other titles include Champagne, Whisky and Cigars) designed to help someone with a keen interest in a subject to start the process of becoming a connoisseur. It includes short sections on perfume appreciation, insights into a few fragrance creation processes and exclusive contributions from several industry figures. But the vast bulk of it will feature reviews of what yours truly considers to be the best, most interesting and/or most important perfumes from those currently available on the market. This is the section which will hopefully generate a healthy debate and lead to lots of passionate discussions!

I can’t reveal any more details at this stage because I haven’t actually seen the final proofs yet, so I don’t know what has made the final cut and what hasn’t. I haven’t been informed about the final cover design (you’ll see from the Amazon listing that the English version is currently shown with a Chanel bottle whereas the German translation sports the Shalimar flacon). However, one thing I do know is that my book has to adhere 100% to the structure of the other Snob guides, which means it won’t have an Acknowledgements section. This is a real shame, as several people have provided invaluable help and support whilst I’ve been sniffing and typing away. To make up for this, I’ve decided that when the official publication date comes around, I’ll post a special Acknowledgements entry here on the blog, in which I’ll be able to thank people ad nauseam.

Finally, I should just say, with a great deal of embarrassment, that I can take no responsibility for the appalling errors in Amazon’s product description. I’m not quite sure what medeocre frangrances are and I don’t particularly wish to find out, so I hope someone gets rid of them pretty soon!*

But typos notwithstanding, I’m really thrilled to be able to share this news with you today. Expect more info soon!

Persolaise.

*UPDATE 17th May 2012 – It would appear that some of these typos have now been corrected. Hopefully, the remaining errors will be dealt with soon.
